Exploring the Practical Impact of Faking in a Selection Setting

چکیده
The findings from a Monte Carlo investigation examining the impact of faking on validity and utility suggest that our three manipulations of faking behaviour (magnitude, variability, and proportion) on measures of conscientiousness alone and conscientiousness combined with a measure of cognitive ability undermined the predictive validity and utility of these measures. The results are discussed in terms of their practical implications for using personality testing for employee selection.

The impact of corrections for faking on the validity of noncognitive measures in selection settings.
In selection research and practice, there have been many attempts to correct scores on noncognitive measures for applicants who may have faked their responses somehow. A related approach with more impact would be identifying and removing faking applicants from consideration for employment entirely, replacing them with high-scoring alternatives. The current study demonstrates that under typical ...
متن کاملAntisocial features and "faking bad": A critical note.
We critically review the literature on antisocial personality features and symptom fabrication (i.e., faking bad; e.g., malingering). A widespread assumption is that these constructs are intimately related. Some studies have, indeed, found that antisocial individuals score higher on instruments detecting faking bad, but others have been unable to replicate this pattern. In addition, studies exp...
متن کاملIndividual Difference Variables and the Occurrence and Effectiveness of Faking Behavior in Interviews
There is widespread fear that applicants can fake during selection interviews and that this impairs the quality of selection decisions. Several theories assume that faking occurrence is influenced by personality and attitudes, which together influence applicants' motivation to show faking behavior. However, for faking behavior to be effective, interviewees also need certain skills and abilities...
متن کاملImpact of electronic warnings on online personality scores and test-taker reactions in an applicant simulation
This study investigates the impact of different types of electronic warnings during a simulated job application assessment. Results indicated that negatively worded warnings and accusations worked better than positively worded warnings at blunting faking. Although there was some evidence that test-takers engaging in higher levels of faking heeded warnings more, warnings tended to decrease score...

The purpose of this study is to present a set of findings by studies exploring nursing students...
